Like many other Allscripts MyWay™ users, Summersville Pediatrics learned by way of an impersonal email notice that Allscripts had opted not to develop or update the EHR to be in compliance with government incentives and requirements such as Stage 2 Meaningful Use, 5010, and ICD-10.
“There was no phone call, no personal visit from an Allscripts representative. The email simply gave the announcement and noted we could make the change instead to Allscripts Pro™. Our practice had already been through this twice and I couldn’t believe it was happening again,” recalled Joyce McClung, office manager at Summersville Pediatrics.
She continued, “The first instance happened in 2000, also with an Allscripts product. It never worked for us, and Allscripts finally scrapped it. Then we went with Noteworthy, which was discontinued shortly after we took it live. We ended up back with Allscripts, this time with the company’s Allscripts MyWay™ solution. And everyone knows how that story is ending.”
CGM APRIMA to the resuce
Knowing they were a customer of Allscripts MyWay™, Aprima Gold Certified Reseller, ConXit Technology Group paid a visit to Summersville Pediatrics. After learning the practice was weighing its options on whether to change to Allscripts Pro™ or choose a new vendor – either of which would require converting to a completely different system – ConXit Technology Group representatives asked McClung to take a look at CGM APRIMA.
Because the original Allscripts MyWay™ application was based on source code that Allscripts licensed from Aprima in 2008, CGM APRIMA’s EHR and PM products share a similar look and feel to the product, but with over 1,000 improvements. There would also be no charge for the license fee for Summersville Pediatrics to upgrade. McClung was just about convinced, with one remaining concern. Would all of the practice’s data survive the upgrade?
“We knew there was a long list of data items that would not migrate from Allscripts MyWay™ to Allscripts Pro™, so we definitely wanted an understanding of how well CGM APRIMA would convert our data. We were promised everything would indeed make the transition over,” recalled McClung.
Fast upgrade with all practice data in tact
The promise was kept. “Everything is here – our vitals, labs, insurance claims status – nothing is missing,” said McClung. “I know that wouldn’t be the case if we’d changed to Allscripts Pro™, a completely different system.”
In addition to the quick and painless upgrade, Summersville Pediatrics is finally realizing the benefits of a quality EHR. “Our physicians love how easy it is to pull up images in CGM APRIMA – which are a lot clearer than they were in Allscripts MyWay™. Another improvement we really like is how CGM APRIMA makes diagnosis codes so easy to look up; our physicians could never find them in Allscripts MyWay™; so they’d describe patient symptoms in the notes and our billing staffer would have to assign the appropriate code. Also the Common Problem Palettes never worked right for us in Allscripts MyWay™, but it was easy for us to get them working with CGM APRIMA!” McClung said.
As an added bonus, McClung expects it will be easier to attest for Stage 2 Meaningful Use in CGM APRIMA than it was for Stage 1 in Allscripts MyWay™. “It’s really informative and helpful that you can look up your exact progress anytime you want in CGM APRIMA’s Meaningful Use dashboard,” she enthused.
McClung concluded, “I dreaded the prospect of switching EHRs yet again, but thanks to CGM APRIMA and ConXit Technology Group, it turns out fourth time’s the charm.”
